What affects repiping cost?

Home size and number of fixtures, the pipe material, how easily the walls and ceilings can be reached, and how much patching follows. A single-story home with an open attic is a different job from a multi-story home with finished ceilings.

What drives the cost

  • Number of bathrooms, fixtures and appliances to reconnect
  • Stories, and whether there is attic or crawl-space access
  • PEX or copper
  • Replacing supply lines only, or drains as well
  • Drywall patching and painting afterward
  • Permits and inspections

Scope matters most

A whole-house repipe, a partial repipe of the worst runs and a reroute of one failing line are different projects. Knowing which one the house needs is the first step.

What to ask

Whether patching is included, how long the water will be off each day, and how the old pipe will be handled — abandoned in place or removed.
