A hard freeze exposes plumbing that is set up for Cedar Park’s milder weather
Cedar Park does not usually stay cold long enough for plumbing to remain frozen through an extended winter spell. When a hard freeze does arrive, though, exposed pipe and equipment prepared for milder conditions can ice over quickly. Hose connections, irrigation parts, garage pipe runs, and lines in unconditioned attics or wall spaces are particularly exposed to the cold.
Water expands as it freezes. That pressure works against the pipe from the inside, so restoring flow is only part of the job. A line can appear intact while it is frozen, then reveal a split or leak once the ice thaws and water moves through it again.
Before freezing weather, disconnecting hoses, protecting exposed sections, keeping safe heat indoors, and knowing where the main shutoff is can reduce the chance of damage. After a freeze, low pressure, dampness, or water appearing near an exterior wall deserves attention as a possible split line rather than an assumption that everything came through unchanged.
